George Ely Russell, Jr. Collection

George Ely Russell, Jr., was born 24 November 1927 in Niagara Falls, New York, the son of George Ely Russell, Sr., and Dorothy Powell Russell. He became interested in genealogy at the age of 17 and developed in a true leader in the field. He became a Board-certified genealogist in 1967, served as editor of the National Genealogical Society Quarterly from 1971 to 1986 and was a Fellow of the American Society of Genealogists. George was "the author of more than 140 genealogical writings, articles and books," according to his obituary. He died 9 January 2013 in Ijamsville, Maryland.
George's children donated the majority of his genealogical holdings to The Genealogy Center of the Allen County Public Library. A number of George's important projects and special compilations will be digitized and presented here as a part of the George Ely Russell, Jr. Collection of The Genealogy Center.
