These letters are the World War II era correspondence of Miss Mabel Poth of 265 Poth Road, Columbus, Ohio and Private George P. Miller of the 166th Infantry, Company "I," A. P. O. # 37, Camp Shelby, Mississippi.

Mabel Florence Poth was born on 27 July 1919 in Mifflin Township, Franklin County, Ohio to Harry John Poth, Sr. (10 Dec 1889-6 Feb 1956), and Hazel Naomi Clotts Poth (21 Sept 1896-15 Dec 1970). She was the oldest of five children, Alberta Mae Poth Miller (23 Sept 1921), Harry John Poth, Jr. (24 Oct 1925), Marvene Poth (5 Nov 1932), and Doris Darlene Poth (24 Jan 1935). Mabel attended Capital University and became a teacher. She taught elementary education in the Gahanna, Ohio, schools and then became a substitute teacher.

George Paul Miller, Sr. was born on 4 June 1918 in Mifflin Township, Franklin County, Ohio, to George Edward Miller (25 May 1876-1 Feb 1956) and Luella Ida Maria Minneman (2 Nov 1890-26 Jan 1974). He had one brother, Raymond David Miller (20 June 1920-8 Dec 1986), who married Alberta Mae Poth, Mabel's sister, on 27 June 1948. George P. Miller, Sr. was college educated and became a teacher. He enlisted into the Army as a Warrant Officer on 20 Jan 1941.

George was a part of the 166th Infantry, Company I. The 166th Infantry was one of the four regiments of the 37th "Buckeye" Infantry Division which received training at Camp Shelby in Mississippi. The 166th Infantry was relieved from assignment to the 37th Division on 1 Feb 1942. The Regiment was then assigned to the Southern Defense Command and stationed in New Orleans, LA and Texas City, TX. The 3rd Battalion of the 166th Infantry Regiment was transferred to Fort Barrancas, FL on 20 Sept 1942. The Regiment was transferred back to Camp Shelby, MS on 10 July 1943. The regiment was then ordered to Fort Sill, OK and Camp Hood, TX. The 3rd Battalion were assigned to the Replacement and School Command at Fort Sill in 1944 and inactivated on 12 Feb 1945.

George P. Miller, Sr. and Mabel F. Poth were married on 11 Dec 1943 in Franklin County, Ohio. They had one child, George Paul Miller, Jr. who currently resides in Columbus, Ohio. George and Mabel Miller lived in Ohio their entire lives with the exception of George's military experience. George passed away on 27 Apr 1995 and Mabel passed away on 13 Mar 2010.
