Charles Harris Collection

These are the collected letters of the Harris family written during and after the United States' involvement in World War II. Most of the letters are written by mother, sisters, brother, and friends to Charles M. Harris (b. 1923), a native of Goshen, Indiana, while he served in the US Navy. Along with handwritten letters are newspaper clippings and holiday cards family sent along, and even an example of military censorship from a cut-out letter. Near the end of the collection are documents and mementos from his time in the service and some documents from his later years in business.

Also here are letters to William Lynn Killen (1919 – 1945), husband of Charles Harris’ sister Jayne Harris Killen (1919 – 2007). Lynn was killed in service to the US Army on January 25, 1945, in Strasburg, Bas-Rhin, France.
