This collection of letters represents correspondence that soldiers and airmen had with my mother, Ann Adang Oxley, throughout World War II. Mom graduated from high school in 1942 and attended Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana during the remainder of the war. Unfortunately, Mom did not save copies of the letters she wrote, but, reading these letters from the soldiers, one can piece together what her side of the correspondence must have been. Mom intended to transcribe these letters and write a book about her experiences. She asked me to help her with this project and I was about halfway through transcribing the 1944 letters when Mom's illness became severe forcing her to leave home for the nursing home and eventually Hospice.
