Addressed to Mr. Chas. F. Buck, Dover Trust Co., Dover, N.J.

July 8, 1918

Dear Chas:

I tho't I'd write to you for a change today. I don't know how many of my letters will reach you but I have written to mother about once a week and hope you get them all eventually. Excuse this paper as it is all I have at my desk just at present. Ralph (Brady) and I are well and getting along fine. I am working from 8 AM to 1 PM and then 5 PM to 9 PM every day and I am very much satisfied as it seems as if I am doing something worth while. Yesterday being Sunday Ralph and I went to a little Inn on the side of a hill and had a fine dinner having ordered it in advance. We had the time of our lives as it tasted so good. The French are some cooks especially for cooking French Fried Potatoes. There is one thing I would like to have over here and it may sound funny to you but nevertheless its true a nice box of American cigars would suit Ralph and I for our after dinner smoke once in awhile but I dont know how to get them sent over. If you could discover a way try and send a box of 50. I think smoking moderately is a good health preserver over here as it tends to act somewhat like a disinfectant. How is Emily? I suppose the girls are playing bridge as usual at the club. It sure seems strange to me not to be setting down to a sociable game with you or the boys at Montclair. I rec'd a letter from the Athletic Club and they are raising the dues to $30. However the fellows in the service numbering about 300 are carried free for the duration of the war. Tell papa that I made made an allottment to him of $15 per month and he no doubt will recieve it in about two months or so it starts with the July payment so for July he should recieve the $15. and then the same amount each month thereafter. Tell him not to be impatient about it as there is always a delay but in any event he has my instructions how to write the war dep't in case of too much delay. I hope he hasnt destroyed the instructions. If when you write you have any photos of interest do send them. I believe you have 3 or 4 I took recently. Fourth of July over here must have quite a celebration especially at London from the newspapers and I hear Asbury Park was crowded as usual over the 4th. To think I was there last year with Ralph. I haven't seen Fred and have no idea where he is now. We are hoping to run into him some time. The old triumvirate cant be broken up you know. Oh yes. My hair is growing out nicely and better for the clipping I am now waiting for it to be of a becoming length and expect to confine myself to keeping it rather short on the sides and back. How is the old town Charlie. It never looked so good to me as now. And the bank? Have you heard from Bill? It looks as if some of the boys in Class 2 will be called soon dont it? Believe me the more they send over the sooner it will be over. The Huns are in for a deserved licking. I sure hope you are all well and happy as can be and dont worry about me. It seems a long way from home but still I feel very near to you all. Write often with all the news with Love to all.

Cliff

P.S. Tell papa to put the allottment to my credit at Montclair for use of B & L payments, etc. CWB
