Dear Emily

Your nice long letter rec'd and I was surely glad to hear from you and I have always enjoyed your letters. The boys are all jealous of Ralph and I as we seem to get a tremendous mail every time it comes in. My friends have simply stood by me nobly. I dont know what we would have done if it wasn't for them. We are still located in the same town and have been here since we were taken out of the front line near Sedan.

I believe I told some of you that I almost reached there on the days of the big drive. If you could have seen the Amex (American Expeditionary Force) wing moving forward on trucks you would wonder how it could have been done. As soon as the Hun began to run it seemed the only way we could keep up to them was by trucks. I know I rode all of two days and one night and the sights I saw I will always remember. In front of us at night we could see the explosion of German magazines and they blew up the roads, but our engineers were on the job and did wonderful work. If we hadnt been called off we would have been going yet. As it was I was in quite a few villages shortly after the Germans pulled out and it was real exciting. I could go on talking for hours about this but will have to stop for as I said before you will have your fill when I get home. It looks now as if it wont be before March at the earliest. I will be satisfied if it is in March. The weather is getting clearer and warmer here now. I believe spring is earlier than in the states as we are in central France. We can even go out now and pick a certain kind of flower that is very pretty. Dont think from this that it is summer tho as it is far from that. Charlies pen has been a dandy to me all these months but tonight it dont feed so well. I guess it needs cleaning. You must be real "comfy" with you Electric lights and the painting that Chas is doing. I wont know the old town when I return. I havent played bridge since I have been in France. I wonder if I have lost my old game. Not if I know it. I hear they have a service flag in the Essex Title for me. I'm in a class by myself being the only one from the company. All I hope is that they can offer me something good when I return for I long to get back into the harness once again. Tell Chas I recd his long letter and postal this week. I have sent films for him in Mama's letter. I hope he will print a few of the good film of myself and the fellow standing before some boxes of hard tack. HaHa.

Will close with love to all -- Cliff

P.S. Remember me to all the girls. What am I going to do I've got three writing to me faithfully. Help.
