North Side High School opened in 1927, when the junior, sophomore and freshman classes of Central High School were divided, with part being sent to the new North Side High School, located where State Boulevard crossed the St. Joseph River. The Legend, the school yearbook was published for the first graduates, the class of 1929. The early volumes are very similar to those seem later in the century, with photos of students, faculty, facilities and student events, but more verbal description of activities were included, such as reports on class accomplishments, sports and clubs. Over the years, the school has expanded, but has retained its classic 1920s look and loyal alumni.
