In the 1840s and 1850s, a sizable number of French immigrants settled in Allen County, Indiana. They had been preceded in the 1830s, and even for some in the late 1820s, by families who had first settled in Ohio mostly but also in New York, and later moved to Indiana.
The vast majority of these immigrants is from Eastern France, mostly from Franche-Comté, but also from Alsace and from Lorraine.
