Filmed in four parts by the Genealogical Society of Utah, 09 March 1989, these records are on Microfilm
No. 81 of the Allen County, Indiana microtext materials of the Genealogy Center, Allen
County Public Library, Fort Wayne, Indiana and on US/CAN Film No. 1616628 in the Family History
Library Collection, Salt Lake City, Utah.
This index was created by Donald A. Weber, a department volunteer and member of the Allen County
Genealogical Society of Indiana, Inc.
Note: Special attention needs to be paid when attempting to move from this index to the original
records. The first actual book or part of the Allen County, Indiana Poor Asylum Records (indicated
in the index by a “1:”) does not have page numbers. The indexer started with the first sheet in
Book/Part 1 that has names on it and designated it page 1; the next sheet with names on it was
designated page 2; etc. After each sheet with names is a sheet containing additional information
about the individuals previously listed. Hence, the page sequencing for Book/Part 1 is: sheet
with names designated as page 1, sheet with additional information about individuals listed on
designated page 1, sheet with names designated as page 2, sheet with additional information about
individuals listed on designated page 2, etc.
Books/Parts 2, 3 and 4 all have stamped page numbers that were used by the indexer.
About Searching This Resource:
This database may be searched in the following ways:
- Fuzzy -- will search for that string of characters. Searching for Smith would find
Smith, Smithson, Arrowsmith, etc.
- Exact -- will search only for that exact text. Searching for Smith will find only Smith.
- Soundex -- will search for the Soundex equivalent. Searching for Smith will find Smith, Smythe, Schmidt, etc.
To keep the system running smoothly, the
search will return a maximum of 1000 items.
