Oak Grove Cemetery, Delaware, Ohio, Memorial to Unknown USCT Soldiers

This memorial was erected in memory of the estimated 15 unidentified African-American soldiers who died at nearby Camp Delaware. After the memorial was erected, further research identified one of the men as 2nd Lt. John Freeman Shorter of the 55th Massachusetts. His tombstone is directly behind the memorial.
