ÔCarl R. Boots, 77, of Sioux City died unexpectedly Wednesday in
El Reno, OK, of a heart attack. Memorial services will be 1 p.m.
Monday at Grace United Methodist Church with Rev.. William H.
Stewart, pastor, officiating.É Mr Boots was born 17 Jan 1918 in
Bayard, IA s/o Lawrence & Lorena (Rawlings) Boots. He was a
graduate of Bayard High School and attended the University of
Iowa on a backetball schlarship. At the university, he met
Georgia Robar, and they were married 20 May 1939 in Aurelia, IA.
After his marriage, they both worked at the State Hospital in
Cherokee, IA. Carl entered the Air Force in 1943 and went
overseas in 1945. He was a gunner on a B-17, participating in 22
missions. After his discharge, he worked as an accountant for
Williams Co. in Sioux City. He then began farming with his
brother-in-law on a farm near Aurelia in March 1946. In January
1952, they purchased the Gamble Hardware Store in Marcus, IA. In
Marcus, he was active on the school board and was involved with
the school reorganization effort. After raising their sons, the
couple moved to Sioux City in 1966. He was an auditor for the
State Unemployment Security Commission until his retirement in
1983. Since his retirement, they have spent winters in Arizona.
They were en route to their winter home in Tucson when he died.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. Survivors
include his wife, 2 sons and their wives, Jerry and Sharon of
Houston, TX, and Denny and Deb of Sioux city; 3 grandchildren,
Brian, Jeff & Michael Boots; and one sister, Marie and her
husband John Clepper of Lennox, SD. He was preceded in death by
his parents; 2 brothers, Howard & Harold, & one sister, Maude.
Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons.ÉÕ
